Investing with us

  • Simple choices, easier online

Investing is simpler than you think and can offer higher rewards than a regular savings account, although the risks are higher too.
You can read our online brochure and then apply online with our secure service straight away, and you can start investing from just £3,600.

Our plans are fixed 5 and 6 year term investments. If you sell your plan before maturity you are likely to receive back less than you invested.

  • 5-Year Fixed income bond

    Five-year Fixed Income Bond

Our Fixed Income Bond provides a fixed annual return or end of term return. Take full advantage of your tax-free ISA allowance by investing up to £7,200/£10,200.

If you keep your money invested for the full term you can choose to benefit from:

    • Fixed return of 4% gross return annually for five years OR
    • Fixed return of 22.25% gross at the end of the five years

Either way, you'll get full repayment of your capital on maturity.

  • 6-Year Defined Returns Plan

    Six-Year Defined Returns Plan

Invest for longer and get a higher potential 48% return after six years if the FTSE-100 Index performs well. If at maturity the Index is above its starting level you will get:

    • 24% return plus an additional 24% (48% total) if the final level of the Index is at least 24% higher than at the start after 6 years
    • If the Index is below its starting level at maturity you will get your original capital repaid, but with no additional return

What are the risks?

Our plans are fixed 5 and 6 year term investments. If you sell your plan before maturity you are likely to receive back less than you invested.

These products are securities issued by Barclays Bank PLC (‘the Bank’). Investing in these products is a loan to the Bank, which intends to repay the capital and to pay any return due at the maturity date. If the Bank is unable at maturity to repay the loan or pay a return, you will receive less than is due to you or nothing at all.

Need help with jargon?

Here are the five definitions that we think you'll find most helpful.

Capital Gains Tax

A tax levied on your investment gains in a tax year. Capital Gains Tax is payable at a rate equivalent to your highest rate of income tax on any gains above your annual CGT allowance from the sale, transfer or disposal of securities or other asset subject to this tax. Further information on CGT rates and your allowance are available at the Revenue & Customs website.

Index Linked

The value of an investment which is linked to a particular index, whether this be a particular stock market index or for example the rate of inflation (as used with Index Linked Gilts).

Structured Products

Investment plans designed to offer returns dependent on the performance of an indicator, usually an index such as the FTSE 100. These fall into two main categories, Structured Capital at Risk Products or Capital Protected Plans which aim to repay all the amount invested at the end of the plan term, regardless of the performance of the indicator. Barclays Defined Returns Plans are an example of a Capital Protected structured product.

Base Rate

An interest rate set by the Bank of England which reflects the cost of borrowing money from the money markets.

Maturity

End of the life of an investment plan at which point it is repaid.
